My Dolls, No 188

Today yet another 'ethnic' doll that I stumbled upon and just had to save.

The AA version/editions of any doll in any wave is the one I am always after. The Sleeping Beauty is quite a curiosity indeed. Coming from Eurocentric narrative, remade to satisfy diverse market needs.

This particular not only bares a graceful Macke face sculpt but also sport6s one of a kind old-school sleepy-eye situation!

Here is a very blurry commercial from 2000 w Caucasian dolls - if you can bear the singing...

Here they are as boxed dolls:

..and a close-up on my future girl...

Here is my pr girl IRL - nude, hair seriously chopped and the 'switch' at the back operating her eyelids jammed and unreliable.

I love her surprised, Bambi-like expression...
other than that...well was tempted to snatch her caramel body but her head is made of hard plastic, only moves around left and right so definitely not a good candidate for a body donor

Let's see then...

It's been way over an year (of lockdowns, UK edition) since I got her so took me a while to dig her out of the bottom of one of my sub-category doll collecting concealed box LOL
Anyway - here she is enjoying her spa time with other thirsty hair gals...taking a nap!?

...Spa wasn't super successful and she is extremely unposable doll but I still thought - quite unique due to her 'sleepy eyes' so I gave her a while session with her other fairy-tale cousin Mackie.

Here they are dressed down as usual enjoying a cosy autumnal interior....

N

oh no, what's happening! who woke me up!?

Oh, hi Rapunzel!

...are we done now?
Can I go back to sleep?!

My dolls No. 187

I probably lost the count long ago amongst all the thrift store finds, carboot surprises and mixed lots purchased online...but according to this Blog count - please welcome my doll No. 187!

This one reflect my taste in dolls like no others...soon after getting rebodied onto a perfectly matching MtM body she became one of my most often photographed ones...

No 187

I spotted her online in random duo and poorly tagged.

Here she is on arrival, poor thing, hope she is not suffering of neck pains!

she's been wearing fashions suggesting to be Native American but ones I cannot identify online...

Her hair still in original style and in unmistakable raven black 'ethnic doll' quality of late 90s...

The minimal makeup, proportional eyes and bended elbows suggest collectable doll...

I got really confused with this purple fashion and an assumption that all Native dolls used for some reason Midge's face sculpt...

...but here she is, American Indian Barbie® Doll #2 1997

Other FirstNations dolls using Teresa's sculpt...

...oh that reminds me f my burning desire...contemporary Spirits on Goddess face, ahhhhh

p.s. Her ebay companion turned out to be from Snap&Play giftset with so called TeenTalk face mold.

...yyy nope. glad she found a new home so very soon...

Benetton Fun

What a half-single mum does when she spends her first Christmas ever without no parents, no children (30.12.19)?...other than reconnecting with Uni friend (also long term migrant) and having wine and a mixed plate of post-tradi foods....she obviously plays with dolls.... no other ones but a true Christmas Miracle ones - ones that she couldn't even dream of having!

Oh, how much fun was setting up these...
As you know and can see I'm not a doll fanatic and I mix up eras and collections a bit.
I love all the colours, vibe and memories they bring

...but what would be a shop full of clothes without colour-obsessed fashion dolls!!

The first to visit is the original, first wave Benetton Barbie (Made in China) wearing a contemporary bright Fashinsitas  mix & match set.

Next the Baywatch Barbie - an ideal of 90s beauty with matching make-up colour palette...

MMMrrrrrr

Oh! More friends are here!

Here is Kira - looking super summery...

...and her pattern-loving, blue-haired bestie Teresa...

..apologies for photos with flash but I've been obviously playing shops after work and in winter...

Yellow loving redhead came to say hi, as well...

Finally the original first wave Christi with recreated hairdo arrives...

...along with cousin Asha...

Group photos!!!

..last but not least -
a short video documenting the diorama setup:-)
